About Tamrha

Picture
* Certified Birth Doula with Childbirth International (CBI) since 2007
* Certified Doula Trainer with CBI
* In four years I have attended over 25 births at both hospitals and at home serving all types of clients.

I am a mother of two boys, Aidan, born April of 2005 and Ciaran, born November of 2006, both on Long Island, NY. It wasn’t until the births of my two children that I became so passionate about birth and pregnancy. I was in a completely different world of fashion and visual merchandising where I worked for companies such as Daffy’s, Macy’s and Nordstrom doing windows and dressing mannequins in the latest styles and trends. Once Aidan was born, I left that work and have never really looked back. Although there were some really great things that came out of the pregnancies and births of both Aidan and Ciaran, there were also a lot of things that didn’t go so well, and that left me with the feeling that I knew it could have been different. For the clients that I work with, I use my experience and knowledge to give them the tools and information to have the best births for them.

A Doula having a Doula...

It was during my studies through Childbirth International that I found out about my second child. For this birth, I hired a doula- and I do believe it was one of the most important things I did! Having her support for my husband and myself, her friendship, knowledge and presence through my pregnancy and labor was something I will always treasure, and it affirmed my desire to offer childbirth support to other women as well.

I believe...

... in a woman's inherent ability to birth her baby

... in a woman and her partner's right to make informed choices during pregnancy and labor

... that birth is not a medical event, but a physiological process

... that babies are participants in birth and are aware before, during and after they are born

... that as a doula, it is my role to support a woman and her partner emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually during the birth of their family
