One more thing...
I believe that pregnancy and birth is not a medical process, most times, but a natural process and that more likely than not, a woman can birth her baby free of many of the standard hospital protocols and procedures.
Should they choose to forgo these procedures after making informed decisions about them, decisions I can supply information on, they should be respected and supported in those choices. My role as a Doula is not to judge, but to offer information when requested and to support a woman and her partner during pregnancy and childbirth on an emotional and physical level.
It is my goal to help families empower themselves to achieve the best birth possible for them. I make it a goal to also support the woman’s partner and never seek to replace anyone present at the birth. To me, it is a blessing and an honor to be present as a family is born…
"I kept thinking that having a doula would be a frivolous thing to have especially when I have a very supportive husband. Well, I was totally wrong." ~Vanessa
